One of my favorite twist outs.

Lesson 3: Failed hairstyles especially twist outs, braid outs, wash and gos is part of the journey.

Hello there girlies, I’m back again with lessons from my 7 year journey posts and today we talk about one of the things most if not all of us have experienced: a failed twist out, braid out, wash and go or even frohawks, hair puffs. Have you ever been so excited to rock a twist out, did everything by the hair tutorials you have watched and used the most recommended hair products but ended up with a twist out without any curl definition, flat and looking all wild? Yep, I have been there too.

Let’s talk about, the failed style can ruin your whole day and worse if you were to rock it for an event you were attending. One thing I have learned is to have a backup style and leave room for, “what if it doesn’t work?” Because most of the time, especially at the beginning of your hair journey, it won’t work. At the beginning of my hair journey, most of my twist outs turned into high puffs. Puffs have always been my backup style because they are easy to nail, style them differently each time and will always look perfect.

I would love to know which style is usually your back up style and if you have experienced a failed twist out, braid outs and which other styles have failed you. Don’t get frustrated when your styles don’t turn out right, it is part of the journey and believe me, you will get to a place where you will achieve those styles with your eyes closed. Personally, I have gotten to a place where I achieve a well-defined twist out and braid out without using a curling cream, all I need to use is a leave in conditioner and a butter.

How to rock that twist out that doesn’t turn out perfect. Still gorgeous with some definition.
