When I started the hair care journey, I would only moisturize with water then seal with alison’s coconut oil then bought a leave in conditioner and other products followed. I also did a lot of research on caring for it, how to properly use the hair care products and everything to do with natural hair and that’s why I created this blog to share tips for y’all.

How to grow Natural Hair long

About the my natural hair care journey;

  • I started with just water and an oil for moisturizing and sealing, didn’t deep condition until months later but my hair was okay according to my then hair standards.

Related posts; Why deep conditioning is essential and what you need to know before moisturizing.

  • Puffs were my go to styles later on hopped into twists which are my go to protective style to date.

Related post; What you should know about puffs.

  • Before I started the hair care journey, my routine was wash, blowdry repeat nothing much. I had to create a hair care routine.
  • I had to learn about products, how to properly use them, learnt to check for ingredients. The price don’t matter, I had someone say cheap products don’t work like the costly ones which I disagree. Find products with the ingredients you are looking for.
  • My hair wasn’t as thick then but now, you can barely see my scalp.My hair did grow my past the shoulder length, it was stuck at shoulder length like forever I even thought it wouldn’t grow longer that.

Tips on caring for your by yourself.

  • Create a hair care routine and be consistent. Keep it simple and healthy.
  • Start with essential products; shampoo, deep conditioner, leave in conditioner, oil/butter(sealant)
  • Don’t complicate your hair journey by trying every DIY trend, buying every product promising growth, not loving your hair as it is and comparing it.
  • Be gentle with your hair and create time for it so you don’t rush through it.
  • If you have to go to a hair stylist, make sure he/ she is gentle and has knowledge on caring for natural hair.
  • Just know your hair is beautiful straight, with or without curls and even when shrinkage decides to do the thing.
  • Don’t have unrealistic goals and expectations. Your main goal ought to be health then everything else. Healthy hair grows longer, doesn’t break easily and retains length too.

Lessons from years of caring for my lush mane;

  • Keep your hair care routine simple and be consistent. Consistency is everything.
  • Your hair is always growing. If you aren’t noticing length increase, most probably you aren’t retaining length from your growth.
  • Know your hair needs, products and the right way to use them on your hair
  • Use minimal heat, too much heat may damage or thin your hair
  • Don’t compare your hair, it’s different and unique.
  • Hair care is all trial and error sometimes until you find out what works best.
  • When you are consistent with healthy hair care practices, your hair will reward you with health, length and volume.
  • Your hair stylist and hair care practices can make or break your hair.
  • No single product will grow your hair and magic growth products don’t work, if they did we all would have long hair.
