Is Moisture and Protein balance essential for healthy Natural Hair ?

How often do you deep condition with protein and moisture deep conditioner? Do you know the difference between the two? No? Check out different conditioner types and how to use them here.

Hello ManEmbracers, I hope your skin is glowing and your hair growing. Welcome to my blog and be sure to keep it here for all the tea on Afro hair.

Did you know moisture and protein balance is essential for growth of healthy hair? Our hair is made up of keratin, a protein but due to manipulation, the hair’s protein structure is destroyed. That’s why protein treatments also known as reconstructors come in to reconstruct the protein structure. If your hair is colored, damaged or you use heat styling tools frequently, deep condition with protein deep conditioners regularly & follow up with a moisturizing deep conditioner.

moisture and protein balance

How does balanced hair feel or look like?

Balanced & healthy hair has strength(doesn’t easily break), elasticity, feels soft yet strong & has its natural shine and curl definition.

How to tell whether your hair needs protein or moisture.

How your hair feels, looks and breaks when wet will tell whether it needs moisture or protein. If your wet hair feels hard and rough & when you stretch it doesn’t stretch much before breaking, it needs more moisture. Deep condition with a moisturizing deep conditioner & moisturize with water-based moisturizer.

Your hair needs protein if it feels weak/brittle and limp when wet & stretches and stretches before breaking. Incorporate deep protein treatment to your regimen.

Is too much moisture or protein a thing?

Yes, I mean too much of everything is dangerous. Overuse of protein conditioners, DIY proteins(rice water, avocado, eggs) leads to protein overload and too much moisture causes hygral fatigue. See why the balance is essential? Breakage can also be a sign of either moisture or protein deficiency or too much of either.

Causes of hygral fatigue.

Hygral fatigue results from continually wetting your hair before it dries or overusing moisturizing products(deep conditioning overnight & moisturizing using the baggy method every now and then.)

Signs of hygral fatigue;

  • Hair feels gummy when wet
  • Loss of hair elasticity(curl doesn’t bounce back after stretching)
  • Hair breaks easily
  • Doesn’t hold its curl pattern & styles.

Causes of Protein overload.

Almost all hair care products contain proteins, it’s no surprise to experience overload and you barely use protein based deep conditioners. Do check the ingredient list of the products before  you purchase. Overusing protein based deep conditioners leads to overload too. How often you use them depends on how damaged your hair is, how often you use heat styling tools, if your hair is colored or relaxed and whether the moisturizers & instant conditioners have protein.

Signs of protein overload

  • Hair feels extremely dry, hard & rigid
  • Feels straw like & stiff even after moisturizing.
  • Lacks natural shine & looks lifeless.

I did a thing guys. Your girl is on a mission to try new styles and up her styling game. Hello Mane Embracers, I hope your hair is growing and skin glowing. Welcome to my blog and be sure to keep it for healthy hair care tips and tricks. Flat twist-out Afro I did another thing, installed flat twists as my low manipulation style for a week or so and the flat twist-out turned to an Afro. I love wearing my Afro or may be I love it because my styling game is 👎👎👎. Either way we all agree that afros are cute. Bun & bangs. First, I uploaded a tutorial on Facebook and Instagram, be sure to check out. It’s an easy to achieve style. Got no time to figure out how style your hair? Well, this style is for you. Bun & flat twist Same bun but flat twisted the bangs & the look gave me some ‘ hey there, praise and worship & good gal vibe.’ It’s an official look, easy to achieve style & a less than 5 minutes style. Low puff & twists. I live for high puffs but side puffs are okay too. I loved the look & the twists were, “hide my forehead thing.” Hello fellow gals with a big forehead & heart. Twists & tucked twists. Turned the low puff to chunky twists and pinned them. For a moment I thought I had locs but they don’t look like locs though. The IT style. How gorgeous is this style? I would love to know which of the styles is your favorite.
