Not sectioning.

You all know by now sectioning is a big deal for me. Sectioned hair is easy to work with especially when detangling and cleansing your hair.

Sectioned hair for wash day

Sectioned hair isn’t prone to forming knots, tangles and matting especially when shampooing and massaging the scalp because you are working with manageable size of hair.

Why sectioning Natural Hair is important.

Skipping detangling.

Always detangle your hair before cleansing your hair. You can detangle the night before wash day. Let go of the shed hair, knots and tangles. Use wide tooth comb or fingers to detangle.

Skimping on water.

How much and for how long do you soak your hair with water before shampooing? Soak your hair for sometime before shampooing for the shampoo to lather well so as to get rid of all dirt and the build up, don’t be so mean with the water. Soak your hair generously before shampooing.

Scratching your scalp.

You wanna get off the build up and unclog your pores but scratching your scalp is the wrong way to go about it. Shampoo your scalp, hold the sectioned strands downward and massage your scalp gently with your finger pads or a scalp massager not your nails, it not only feels nicer but scalp massages stimulate growth.

Rubbing the towel.

Rubbing the towel on your hair while drying weakens your strands due to the friction between your hair and towel. If you have to use a towel just wrap it on your hair and let it absorb the water, use an old t-shirt to dry off by holding it to your hair. You can also use a micro-fiber towel to absorb the water.

Not rinsing well.

Thoroughly rinse the shampoo and conditioners. I know most of us rush of the rinsing unless you want product residues sitting on your scalp and causing you more product build up, clogged follicles, an itching scalp/scalp irritation.

Skipping deep condition.

Deep conditioning with a moisturizing deep conditioner is an essential wash day step to restore moisture and strengthen the hair. Deep condition on every wash day with a moisturizing conditioner and use a protein based deep conditioner after every few weeks to months.

Moisturizing deep conditioners that will give you that soft and shiny hair;

Protein treatments/ deep conditioners to repair damage and strengthen your hair;

How you wash your hair is important for a lush, healthy and growth of hair. Product build up and itchy scalp ain’t anyone’s cup of tea since we all want gorgeous manes.
