Heat Damage

We all love flaunting our length once in a while and taking a break from our coils and curls. While temporary, straightened hair can be a fun change, excessive heat application without proper protection can lead to heat damage. Always be cautious when using heat. Personally I have a fear of heat, haven’t used heat in a long minute.

Excessive heat weakens the protein bonds, leading to weak, brittle hair. To prevent heat damage, you can decide to do away with heat or use a heat protectants when using heat and minimum heat.

Chemical damage

Damage caused by chemicals processes like relaxers and texturizers that alter the texture of natural hair. However, improper application or overuse of these products can cause severe damage to 4C hair. Chemical relaxers, contain harsh ingredients that break down the protein bonds in your hair, resulting in weakened strands, scalp irritation, and even hair loss. If you choose to chemically treat your hair, seek professional help, and always follow the instructions diligently to minimize damage.

Other types of hair damage

  • Color damage: sometimes not following the instructions, lack of a healthy hair care routine and using hair colors with harsh chemicals. To repair color damage incorporate protein deep conditioners to repair damage and create a consistent hair care routine.
  • Damage caused by the daily wear and tear. Daily styling, brushing, combing and hair brushing on your clothes and jewelry.

Signs of damaged hair

  • Weak and split ends.
  • Dry and brittle hair
  • Hair appears dull
  • Lack of elasticity and bounce
  • Hair thinning and excessive hair loss
