Lesson 7 from my Natural Hair Journey; How do I Grow my 4C Natural Hair Longer and Faster?

When I started my natural hair journey, the goal was to have total control of my hair care process, stay off heat and salons. Yes, I had some terrible experiences with hair stylists and heat. If you haven’t had any luck with stylist, may be consider doing it yourself. And if you need help, just reach out.

Well, after watching the a thousand YouTube tutorials and reading blogs, the gorgeous, thick and long 4c hair the queen’s had looked so good that I wanted to achieve the same. Length and thickness was added to hair goals to achieve because why not? Who doesn’t want long, thick and healthy natural hair?

How Do I Grow My Natural Hair Longer?

My hair was long, well, according to other people but for me, I knew I could get longer and thicker hair. I wasn’t in a rush to get it longer even though I had seen all those posts and tutorials on these ingredients or products will grow your hair faster. My commitment was to figure out what works for my hair and keep doing that, and girl, it worked.

For me, rosemary worked wonders alongside my hair care routine. I simplied my routine to monthly washes, only needed four products (shampoo, deep conditioner, leave-in conditioner and rosemary infused hair oil). My wash day comprised of detangling with DIY detangler made of rosemary and hibiscus leaves juice and aloe vera gel, shampooing, then deep conditioning, doing a rosemary water rinse and lastly moisturizing and sealing in the moisture. Catch up on detailed wash day routine.

I did weekly hair moisturizing when wearing natural hair mini or medium size two strand twists. Two strand twists has been my go to protective style because I can do it myself, its easy to manage and helps with retaining length. If you’re looking for style that’s versatile to help with length retention, natural hair twists is it.

Lessons on how to grow your hair longer

  • First, create a natural hair care routine that suits your lifestyle and keep it simple. Don’t complicate it. You can choose to have wash days weekly, twice a month or monthly depending on your hair needs and time availability. Also, get the essential hair care products and tools for a smooth hair care process.
  • I highly recommend getting a journal or planner to document your natural hair journey, which also helps in knowing what’s working and not working. I created a downloadable hair planner that you can use to document weekly hair care progress. Grab it here and now. Also while at it, check out the hair care guides.
  • This is a big one- don’t fall for the get this oil or product if you want your natural hair to grow faster scams. I mean if the oils, the rice water, onion water and so on worked, wouldn’t we all have long hair? But we don’t, that means it’s all a scam. Some products and ingredients do help with strengthening the hair minimizing breakage and others help with growth stimulation.
  • Focus more on retaining length and not hair growth. Your hair is always growing and yes you can stimulate hair growth by regular scalp massages with growth stimulating oils, but you also need to minimize breakage by adopting healthy hair care practices so as to retain length from the hair growth.

In Conclusion

Focus on length retention more, have a consistent and healthy hair care routine, use hair care products the right way, get to know what’s working for your hair and do away with everything that isn’t working and enjoy your hair at every stage it’s at.
