My Natural Hair is Always Growing But Why Stagnated Length.

For the longest time, my natural hair was stuck at shoulder length but every time I would braid it, I noticed growth (you know how the roots get puffy after sometime?) Quick one, do we call that growth or just puffy roots? Anyways, I always thought my hair wasn’t growing until I learned that it’s always growing only that I was losing the growth to breakage. My routine then was pretty simple but not the healthiest, I didn’t know better.
My wash day was simply cleansing with a shampoo at the salon and heat straightening every single month and wear a protective style every once in a while. I barely did any deep conditioning or moisturizing. I know for most of my Kenyan girlies, that’s your hair routine and if you’re lucky to find a hairstylist that knows about deep conditioning, you get a dose of deep treatment every once in a while. This kind of routine weakens your strands causing breakage and isn’t the healthiest for the scalp as well.

Fast forward 7 years later, I’ve grown my hair to almost mid back and it’s the thickest it has ever been. I’m now convinced that our hair is always growing only that our routine and daily hair practices break our hair making it seem like it isn’t growing. It’s important to note that our growth rate is different. Some girlies hair grow faster compared to others.
So, if you feel like your hair has been stuck at the same length for the longest time, it’s about time you reviewed your hair routine and practices. I can help you with that by booking a hair consultation with me or grab these hair guides and a journal to document your natural hair journey. See you on lesson 2, in the meantime share with me your natural hair lessons, fails and wins.
