Hello mane embracers, I hope your crowns are flourishing and your skin glowing. Thank you for stopping by and welcome to my natural hair blog.

If you’ve ever had to wash or style a kid’s hair you know the screams, tears and fights that come with it. Now that #stayhome rule is here with us, it means taking care of our kids hair and that can be hectic and such a pain but our kid’s hair got to look gorgeous despite the zero salon dates.

Kids scalps are fragile and need soft tools & products, gentle & loving hands and quick routines. Kids got no time to sit around, they got to run around, make a mess around and play so they won’t understand your detangling, twisting, braiding and all that stuff mama thinks and says is important.

Let’s get down to the main issue here, shall we? First, assemble all the wash day essentials.

How to prep your Kid’s hair for smooth wash day

Before we get down to the prep tips got to mention that, have your wash day on a different day from your kid and if you have two kids have different wash days for them or alternate their wash days. Working on a kid’s hair can be a little hectic but the following tips will ease up your baby’s wash day.

1. Section the hair
Am a huge advocate of working with sectioned hair, it’s easy, manageable and less time consuming. Section your kid’s hair and clip the sections.

Why sectioning Natural Hair is important.

2.Prepoo.
If her hair is dry and brittle you’ll need to pre-poo with your favorite oil the night before the wash day. The pre-poo is important for restoring moisture and reducing the stripping effect of shampoo.

3.Detangle.
I know some of us detangle after pre-pooing overnight with our favorite oils but sometimes the oils don’t give a good slip and if that’s your case use a detangler, conditioner or spritz water for easier detangling.

You don’t want your kid screaming and having a headache you can easily avoid by using a detangler with a good slip. Detangle gently with your fingers from the roots to the ends.

4.Have fun while at it.
Play her favorite music, kids show something she loves for distraction cause you got to keep her seated while detangling. Sing songs, let her tell you stories and also fill her in on what you are doing to her hair and let her try it also. Remember you won’t do her hair for the rest of her life.

5. Pay attention to foreign bodies in her hair.
They say kids will always be kids and curiosity and play is their main language thus having all kid of stuff in the hair. While working on their hair pay attention to gums, their play toys, sand, glue, leaves and so on and work gently whole getting them off their hair. Let them know what shouldn’t get on their hair and that’s their hair is gorgeous.
